Zoral Decision Engine

One decision engine, from first lead to final payment

Zoral Decision Engine applies your credit policy and models in real time, across products, customer segments, touchpoints, channels and countries. It sits at the centre of the Zoral Finance Operating System (fOS), next to your core. Your credit team changes the rules, with testing and a second approval. Every decision is recorded with its reasons.

The problem: credit rules spread across many systems

In many banks, credit rules sit in the core, in each channel and in separate decision tools. Every change is made several times, usually by engineers. No one has one record of why a customer was approved, priced or declined.

The answer: one engine at the centre of the platform

Your credit team writes each rule once, and every channel uses it. At the centre of Zoral fOS, Zoral Decision Engine makes each decision. Zoral Data Fabric records every decision with its data. The Business Outcomes Layer shows what each change did to conversion, losses and revenue. Zoral Core Orchestrator sends exceptions to the right work queue.

Every customer decision on one engine

One engine chooses the next best action at every step: lead management, conversion, credit scoring and underwriting, closing, cross-sell, refinancing, retention and collections. It also personalises customer journeys across every touchpoint.

Compliance

Every decision is recorded and kept for audit, with its reasons.

Better credit decisions show in the business numbers

Bureau scores alone often separate a lender's good and bad customers poorly. Models tuned on your own data, with policy built around them, help you approve more good customers and lose less. Measure the result across acceptance, default, pricing, collections, retention and cost together.

Every decision is explained, and kept with its data, rules and model versions.

Results vary by product, geography, data quality and implementation scope.

One engine for retail, SME and corporate credit

Many banks run a separate rules engine for each business line, and the rules drift apart. Zoral Decision Engine runs every segment on one engine: customers with no credit history, mainstream and mass-affluent retail customers, small businesses and corporates. They share data and one audit trail.

Your core banking system

  • Many measures at once

Each decision weighs fraud, default, pricing, cross-sell and retention together.

  • Fast, scalable and resilient

Decisions run in real time, with low latency. In production, the engine makes up to 5,000 credit decisions a second, around the clock, every day of the year, for a large online retailer’s pay-later checkout. It scales across servers, and a fault in one service has little effect on the rest.

  • Offers during the session

While the customer applies, the engine can set the offer, limit and price to fit their risk.

For your architects: open where your engineers need it

Credit teams configure. Engineers extend where configuration ends. Their changes are versioned, tested and approved like any other, and the bank sees and controls it all from one console.

AI assistant for configuration

Analysts describe a scorecard in plain language. The AI assistant drafts it, and a person tests and approves it.

Questions from credit, risk and technology leaders

Our engineers could build this from a rules engine and a workflow tool. Why buy it?

They could. But the tools are generic, and the banking logic would still be yours to build and maintain. Every change would need engineers, and no one would have a single record of each decision. The question for the board is who maintains that logic in ten years, and how fast the business can change it. Your engineers keep their freedom where they need it.

We already have a decision engine. What is different?

Most decision engines decide, then leave origination, documents, collections and measurement to other systems. Zoral Decision Engine is part of Zoral fOS, with one record from first enquiry to final payment. Your credit team sees what each rule change did to conversion and losses. You can also start by running Zoral alongside your current engine until the results match.

Do AI agents or language models make credit decisions?

No. Credit decisions follow rules and models your bank approves, and accountability stays with your bank. AI is guardrailed, with human-in-the-loop supervision. Agents prepare, check and draft, only through the permissions, workflows and approvals you set. Every action, prompt and tool call is recorded. Machine-learning models handle default, pricing and limits; language models read documents and draft. Your bank chooses its language models, connected through a standard interface (MCP), and data stays within the environments and agreements you control.

Where does it run, and who owns the data?

On AWS or Azure in your chosen region, or in your own data centre. It works next to your core, and we have worked alongside modern cloud cores as well as traditional ones, integrating with them and maintaining their product configuration. Your data and audit history stay yours, and you can export them in standard formats. Zoral is independently audited under SOC 2; details are on the Zoral Trust Portal.

Who implements it?

Atelier, Zoral’s senior consulting practice, leads the work with your teams. The people who built the platform are part of every programme. See Credit risk and decisioning, Data, AI & Automation and Engineering and delivery.
