Insurers, brokers and Takaful operators
Know which policies are likely to pay their way, before you set the price.
In insurance you rarely turn business away. You steer it through price. Acquisition costs are paid up front, so a policy that cancels early or does not renew often loses money. The Zoral Finance Operating System (fOS) estimates renewal, cancellation, claims, fraud and payment risk for each quote and policy. It gives your pricing and underwriting teams the reasons and works around your policy and rating systems.
Profit is made over the life of a policy. Judge each one that way.
Quotes, policies, claims and instalment payments often sit in separate systems with no common reference. Policy records are updated after the sale. Models built on that data can look strong in testing and disappoint in use. Zoral Data Fabric links these records from quote to renewal, as they were at each decision. Leaders compare retention, cancellations, claims and arrears with plan and see where and why results drift.

- Referrals within underwriting authority
Back office: claims, servicing and renewal
- Cancellation and renewal risk flagged in time to act
- Claims documents read and routed to named handlers, as you configure
- Missed instalments handled under your collections policy
Better inputs for your pricing team. The price stays theirs.
Rating tables price groups of risks from past experience. Zoral’s machine-learning models estimate how an individual quote or policy is likely to behave: whether it will convert, claim, cancel, renew or fall behind on payments, and whether the application looks honest. Scores and risk grades reach your rating engine as inputs. Each model is built on your history, compared with your current models and released after approval. Each score keeps its reasons. We have built them for motor and home insurance. Other personal lines can be configured.
Renewals worth keeping
Estimates whether a customer is likely to renew without needing a discount, at quote and again before the renewal invitation. Use it to retain the right customers with fair offers within the rules, improve service at renewal and inform new-business pricing with likely lifetime value.
Mid-term cancellation
Identifies policies likely to be cancelled early, whether for a cheaper quote elsewhere or after missed payments, with the reasons. An early cancellation rarely recovers its acquisition cost. Early notice lets your teams and brokers act on service, cover or payment terms in time.
Claims likelihood and pricing signals
Estimates how likely a policy is to claim, from your claims history and the details given at quote. Set against the price charged, it shows where segments, schemes or panel insurers may be mispriced, for your pricing team and actuaries to review.
Quote manipulation and linked applications
Flags applications where details appear to have been changed to get a cheaper price, and links applications that share details, a pattern seen in ghost broking. Your counter-fraud team receives a ranked list with the evidence. A flag is a reason to look closer, not a decision.
Instalment payment risk
For customers paying monthly, estimates the risk of missed instalments before the policy is bound, so payment options and deposits follow your policy. Where monthly premiums are provided as credit, affordability and fair treatment of customers in difficulty are part of the decision.
Value over the life of a policy
Combines the renewal, cancellation, claims, payment-risk and add-on estimates into an expected multi-year value for each customer and segment. Pricing and distribution teams see which channels bring lasting customers and where good risks are lost at quote. It is one input to pricing and acquisition decisions, within your fair value reviews.
Your teams keep the judgement. Zoral does the reading, checking and chasing.
Underwriters, investigators and claims handlers spend much of the day finding documents and chasing replies. Zoral Document Fabric, our intelligent document processing (IDP) service, integrated with Zoral fOS, reads and checks documents as they arrive. Work queues route each case to the right person. AI agents, configured to your policies and workflows, gather documents, summarise files and draft letters. They act only through the permissions and approvals you set, and what they do is recorded. Agents do not make underwriting, pricing or claims decisions.
Pricing and underwriting
Scores and risk grades arrive with their reasons and can be tested against your current rating before release. Referrals outside authority reach an underwriter with a prepared file. Overrides are recorded by name. Proposal forms and supporting documents are read and checked.
Counter-fraud and claims
Investigators receive suspected quote manipulation and linked applications as a ranked list, with the evidence and the checks still needed. Where trusted data confirms the details, checks can be completed without troubling the customer. Claims documents can be configured to be read against the policy and routed to named handlers. Your people decide on declines.
Brokers and agents
Portals or APIs can be configured for brokers and agents to quote, submit, upload documents and track referrals, renewals and claims. Each broker sees only its own clients and cases, including customers at risk of cancelling, in time to call them.
We have implemented renewal, cancellation, claims, fraud and payment-risk models as inputs to an insurer’s pricing model.
Your policy and rating systems stay in charge. Zoral adds the evidence.
Your rating engine keeps producing the price, and your policy administration system remains the system of record. Zoral fOS returns scores, risk grades and reasons to your rating engine, quote journeys, comparison-site quotes and broker platforms through documented interfaces (APIs, messaging, events or file transfer). Results can be configured to be written back to policy, claims and payment systems. It runs on AWS or Azure in your chosen region, or in your own data centre, and is designed for high availability.
Keep the systems you have paid for. Improve the decisions they make.
Questions insurers and brokers ask us
Business and risk
We already run a policy administration system and a rating engine. Do we have to replace them?
No. Zoral reads what it needs from them, adds model scores, document checks and workflows, and returns results through documented interfaces. The price and the policy record stay where they are today. A sensible first step is one book where early cancellations or unprofitable renewals cost most. You decide how far to go after that.
Our actuaries own pricing. Where do Zoral’s models fit?
They work alongside your actuaries. The models estimate how individual quotes and policies are likely to behave. Your pricing team decides whether and how those estimates, or risk grades built from them, enter the rating structure. Where we have implemented such models for an insurer, their scores were inputs to its pricing model and its pricing team kept the price. Each model is compared with your current models on your own history before release. Your actuarial and model risk functions sign it off.
Why predict renewal, and how do we use it without penalising loyal customers?
Acquisition costs are paid when a policy is sold, so a customer who cancels or does not renew rarely repays them. Knowing at quote who is likely to stay helps you price new business for its likely lifetime value, focus acquisition spend on channels that bring lasting customers, and offer better service at renewal. Your pricing engine sets the price and applies the pricing rules, including those on renewal pricing. Zoral’s scores and decisions feed it, and each one is stored with its inputs and reasons.
How do we show fair value, and explain a decision to a customer, broker or regulator?
Each score and decision Zoral supplies to a quote, renewal offer or retention action is stored with its inputs, the rule and model versions in force and its reasons. Value, price and outcomes can be compared by customer group and channel, including customers who may be vulnerable, for your product governance and fair value reviews. You choose which reasons brokers and customers see. A customer who asks for human review of an automated decision reaches a named person with the complete file. The obligations remain yours. Zoral keeps the evidence.
Can a fraud score cancel a policy or decline a claim on its own?
No. A flag sends the application or claim to a named investigator with the evidence behind it. The flag is a reason to look closer, not a finding. Decisions to cancel a policy, or to decline or reduce a claim, are taken by your people under your policies. Cases that clear return to normal handling, and each step is recorded.
What do AI agents do, and who is accountable for underwriting and claims decisions?
Agents support named teams. They collect and summarise documents, chase missing items, draft letters and file notes, and answer status questions from brokers and customers. They are configured to your policies and workflows, act only through the permissions, workflows and approvals you set, and what they do is recorded. Agents do not make underwriting, pricing or claims decisions. Those decisions follow rules and models your company approves or are taken by your people, and accountability stays with you.
Can we run Takaful and conventional business on the same platform?
Zoral fOS supports Takaful structures alongside conventional products: contributions rather than premiums, participants’ and operator’s funds kept apart, and separate rules, documents and reporting, configured to your model. Your Shariah board remains the authority; Zoral provides the configurable structures and the evidence trail for its review.
We are a broker or MGA. What does Zoral do for us?
Brokers face the same economics: acquisition costs up front and a renewal book that has to repay them. Brokers can use the same renewal, cancellation, fraud and payment-risk models on their own data, compare claims likelihood with the prices panel insurers charge, and run portals for producers and clients. MGAs can configure the underwriting authority their insurers delegate, with referrals and records for insurer review.
We are a bank or lender that sells insurance alongside credit. Where does Zoral fit?
Zoral works on both sides. It runs credit decisions for lenders and has built insurance cross-sell models for clients in retail banking, mortgage lending and mobile lending. Cover can be offered at the point in the journey where it is relevant, after eligibility checks and a record of the customer’s needs, and separately from the credit decision. Take-up, cancellations and claims are tracked by product, so your fair value reviews show whether the cover works for customers. You and your insurer partners keep responsibility for how insurance is sold.
Technology and delivery
Our data is incomplete and hard to link. Can we still start?
Yes. Data built for administration often lacks common references between quotes, policies, claims and payments. Records may also be updated after the sale. The first piece of work checks and links your data, shows where gaps weaken the models, and sets data-quality controls. Zoral Data Fabric then keeps a record of what was known at each quote. In our experience, once the data is linked, each later model is much quicker to build and tune. Data sources are limited to what you hold and what your data protection officer approves.
Where does our data sit, and will Zoral fit our architecture and resilience rules?
Zoral runs on AWS or Azure in your chosen region, or in your own data centre, and is designed for high availability. Zoral Document Fabric, which reads your documents, runs in your own AWS or Azure account, or your private cloud, in your region and under your control. Predictive models are built and run within that environment. You choose the language models used by AI agents. They connect through a standard interface (MCP), within the environments and agreements you control. Our controls are independently audited under SOC 2, with details on the Zoral Trust Portal. Architecture documentation is available under a confidentiality agreement.
How do we start, and who runs the platform?
Start with one book and the decision that costs most, such as mid-term cancellations or renewals in motor or home. Models are proved on your historical data, alongside your current ones, before any score is used in your pricing. Further steps follow in regular releases. We give a realistic plan after scoping the work with you. Zoral can run and support the platform for you, your own technology team can run it, or we share the work and hand over as your team grows. Your people run underwriting, claims and distribution.
What if we change provider later, and who stands behind Zoral?
Your data, model definitions, product rules and audit history remain yours and can be exported in standard formats. Zoral is an independent specialist, founded in 2004, with over 100 projects and 350+ years of combined experience, and our platform is our own. We have worked with clients regulated by the FCA in the UK, the CFPB in the US and the central banks of Malaysia and Thailand, and we have a long-standing relationship with KPMG.
Who implements it?
Atelier, Zoral’s consulting and implementation team, works with your teams and, where you choose, with your advisers and systems integrators. The same team includes data specialists who bring policy, claims and payment data together for the models that feed your pricing.
Set the direction. Prove it on your own data first.
Start with a proof of concept. A senior Zoral team assesses the book where early cancellations, unprofitable renewals or instalment arrears hurt most. It then builds and tests models on your historical quotes, policies and claims, and shows what they can and cannot predict. Data gaps are fixed along the way. What proves its value moves into production through your rating engine. Your pricing, underwriting and technology leads decide each step.
